Introducing the Balenciaga Neo Classic Bag

Nicholas Ghesquiere spent 15 years as creative director for Balenciaga and his departure from the brand back in 2012 sent waves throughout the industry. Handbag lovers know Ghesquiere as the man behind Balenciaga’s iconic, and seemingly never ending, line of Motorcycle Bags. Industry leaders know Ghesquiere to be one of the most talented and influential designers in all of fashion.

During his time at Balenciaga Ghesquiere set fourth an aesthetic that was to be continued on by his predecessors—first Alexander Wang and today Demna Gvasalia. The brand is now celebrating 20 years of its most iconic bag with a revamped design introduced for fall 2020 by Gvasalia. Introducing the Balenciaga Neo Classic Bag.
The original designs of the Balenciaga Flat Brass Classique were first spotted on the arms of fashion models back in the very early 2000s. Most notably, the bag was a favorite of Kate Moss. Already beloved by fashion’s it-girls, Ghesquiere’s Moto bags debuted on the runway in 2001. Since then, the bags have been reimagined in immeasurable combinations of varying sizes, colors and fabrications.

Now, for fall 2020, Demna Gvasalia has taken Balenciaga’s most recognizable house codes and reimagined them in a way that is both modern and yet an ode to the past. The Balenciaga Neo Classic Bag celebrates an amazing 20 years of Balenciaga’s most classic design. The updated silhouette is a top handle carryall that appears to be a bit structured, featuring Balenciaga’s iconic moto studs and braided handle detailing. This stunning design appears in multiple fabrications from matte leather with monochrome hardware to embossed croc iterations.

No word yet on pricing, but the bag is said to be coming soon to stores beginning July 20th. Shop the Classic Balenciaga City bag now via Fashionphile.
