For Cruise 2019, Nicolas Ghesquière packed all the chic of the Twist bag into a compact clutch: the Twist Pochette. Glossy Monogram Vernis patent leather contrasts with a smooth calfskin flap, held shut with a new gold and silver version of the signature LOGO Twist lock. A versatile, easy-to-wear evening bag.

Louis Vuitton’s Twist Bag was first presented during the winter 2014 collection, and designed for the 2015 Cruise Collection. The Twist Bag demonstrates how Nicolas Ghesquière’s (the creative director of Louis Vuitton) is drawing inspiration from the brand’s archive, reviving the interlaced “L” and “V” lock that was first seen in 1988 on the Louis Vuitton Pochette Trapèze (see photos here).
Just like the original Louis Vuitton Trapèze clutches, the Twist bags are typically all made from Louis Vuitton’s Epi Leather; a type of leather that is finished with a painting technique that is added to the outer layer. It is this outer layer that helps to give the Epi Leather such a water-resistant and scratch-proof finish.
The “L” and “V” on the Louis Vuitton Twist bags are rendered with a three-dimensional bombé effect and this metal closure marries together branding and functionality. The metal “LV” is designed to stand-out against the leather of the bag, and with a single twist of the letter “L” – by pushing it anti-clockwise to rest across the letter “V” – the bag is easily opened.
